SHIVARATRI

Shivaratri is associated with lord Shiva, the lord of all lords. This festivals is considered the night  of the creation of  lord Shiva by his own divine grace. It falls in the month of Falgun . Hindu celebrate this festival with faith and devotion.They observe fasting throughout the day.On this day, Hindu devotees visit tempal  and offer their prayers. Pashupatinath, the greatest tempal of Shiva , is also regarded as one of the holiest shrines for all Hindus .On the day of Shivaratri , the tempal of Pashupatinath is thronded by devotees to worship lord Shiva . In the evening, the devotees light holy fires known as Dhuni and dance throughout the night . The door of Pashupatinath tempal is open only for the Hindus.People of  other riligions also visit the tempal . However, they are not allowed to visit the main shrine.

BUDDHA JAYANTI

Buddha Jayanti or Buddha Purnima is one of the important festivals of the Buddhists.It falls on the Full moon day of baishak. Buddgists celebrate this festival with great pomp and show .Siddhartha Gautam was the son of king Suddhyodhan and Queen Maya Devi of Kapilvastu . He was born on the full moon night or vaishakha Purnima in 560 B.C in lumbini. Later his yoth Prince Siddhartha abandoned all worldly pleasures and went in search of enlightenment. He was enlightened at the age of 36 on the night of the full moon of vaishakha in Gaya .since then , he was  called Buddha or enlightened one coincidentally, he died at the age of 80 on the night of the full moon in the month of vaishakha, He is called the light of Asia.He preached peace, kindness , love and compassion to his followers. He said that a man could attain enlightenment following the eight fold paths. During Buddha Purnima , the Buddhists visit Buddhist stupas and vihars sing devotional songs, and offer Prayers at the monasteries and light Candles. in the evening, They eat rice pudding.

The festival holi is also called fagu purnima. IT falls in month of falgun or chaitra. This festival is also called the festival of colours. The house is decorated with colourful clothes and colours. It is called chir . The chir is set on fire in the evening .Every one basks the fire of the chir and enjoys with colours.According to the Vishnu Puran,a demon king,Hiranya Kashyapu the hater of lord Vishnu,hatched a conspiracy to kill his own son,Prahlad who was true devote of lord vishnu the king asked his sister ,Holika  who had been given a boon of  not getting burnt by fire,to sit in fire taking Prahlad on her lap.As a matter of surprise Holika was burnt but Prahlad remined safe.Thus,the festivals is taken as a symbol of the victory of  God over demon truth over evils.
